That works for removable storage like a USB stick but not for the files stored on the actual hard drive of the Xbone.

I still see the File Explorer installed on my Xbox One (Alpha Dashboard user). If it isn't visible under Apps (Installed), have you checked the Ready to install section or searching for it in the Microsoft Store?

Another alternative app that may help you out is the VLC app which you should be able to find in the Microsoft Store if you don't already have it installed.

File Exployer isn't in Ready to Install and looks to have been removed from the store.  VLC doesn't let me view local storage, the Files&folders app let's me partially do that, but I'm no longer able to access previous downloads from IE that were saved to default local storage.

IE now only lets me save to Onedrive.  I'm unable to save to default local storage or to an external device.

The changes happened after a systems update took place.

I'm just having the same problem, I tried to use other apps, but none shows files that were already stored locally, and to make matters worse, my file storage was already full, so I can not download any more movies for example.

The File Explorer app on XBox comes preinstalled and isn't updated through the store. It wasn't removed from the store; it was never there in the first place.*

I don't know of any supported way to uninstall it. If anyone has any idea of how it got disappeared, I'd very interested.

Meanwhile, if you find it missing, could you try this and let me know how it works?

 - Start Edge

 - Open the ... menu and open Settings

 - On the General page, Scroll down to Downloads and hit the Change button

This should open the File Picker app in folder picker mode, in which File Explorer ought to be hosted. You should be able to browse folders in This Device, create a new folder under Downloads, etc.

I'd love to know if this works even if you don't see File Explorer under All Apps - it'd help us figure out what might be going on.

Thanks,

Jesper
